Public transport

So, public transport on Corfu is quite OK. If you won’t hire a car you will definitely survive and what’s more, you’ll still be able to get to the most beautiful places on the island.

There are two main bus networks – Blue Buses/City Bus (that are local) and Green Buses (in which you can travel across the island).

According to Green Buses (City Buses), depending on the destination, you should buy a ticket for zone A (€ 1.20) or zone B (€ 1.70).

Attention! Tickets can be bought at some shops or vending machines at the bus stop. A ticket bought from a driver is more expensive, e.g. in zone B it costs € 2.30.

A detailed description of each zone is available on the Corfu City Buses website. You can also buy a daily ticket for € 5 on Blue Buses, however, it only applies for one day, and not as usual for 24 hours.

City Buses are not as comfortable as Green Buses. They are not always air-conditioned, which in over 35-degree heat gives way. They also do not have an exact timetable, only the departure time, from the first station, is given, so if your stop is somewhere in the middle of the route, it is not known when the bus will arrive.

Green Buses are very comfortable, air-conditioned and punctual. You can get to most of the coastal cities and tourist places. It’s worth taking a look at the website where you can find descriptions of individual routes, current timetables and Green Buses ticket prices. The prices are different but usually they are within € 2,5-3 for a one-way ticket.

The main station is in the city of Corfu, near the airport. You can get there by walk from the airport and it takes about 15-20 minutes. It is a modern station where we can easily obtain the necessary information related to our journey.

PS next to the station there is a Lidl. It is worth to do shopping there, because the prices are much lower than in local shops by the sea.

TAXIs

Besides public transport, taxis are also available, but these are very expensive in comparison with the bus tickets prices. You also need to remember that if you want to take taxi from or to airport you will be counted more due to the airport fee.

Generally, the standards of taxis are high, but of course, you will find older ones. There are many companies that offers taxi services, however, the most numerous are corfutaxi.

Car/ Scoter/ Quad renting

Another way to get around the island are scooters, quads and cars that can be rented in every town. The cost of renting a small car for one day is around € 30/40, but if you rent for longer, the price per day will be lower. It is a very good option to go around the area and see also those places where there is no bus connection (e.g. Halikounas Beach).

In that place it’s essential to write that roads on Corfu, which are outside Corfu Town, are demanding. So if you’re not feeling comfortable on roads it’s much better to use public transport. Also, you can hire a scooter or quad, everything depends on your own preferences. There are plenty of companies which offers hiring options, so definitely you will find something for yourself.
