Museums on Corfu. PART 2.
This article is a continuation of the “Museums on Corfu. PART 1.” post, where Museum of Asian Art, Byzantine Museum, Old Fortress and Casa Parlante was described.
In this article another four museums will be presented.
Museum of Palaeopolis (Mon Repos Palace)
The museum located in the beautiful Mon Repos Palace, are fourteenth galleries based on two main themes! Each of them presents different aspects of the building’s history as well as the ancient monuments in the surrounding area.
The museum is open to the public on weekdays from 8:00 to 19:00. There are two types of tickets – full for €4 and reduced for €2. Also, that museum is included in the special ticket package.
Achilleion Museum
The palace erected in the classical style, others call neoclassical, and still others Teutonic, surrounded by a magnificent garden descending into the sea.
The palace is one of the most popular and, of course, the most beautiful monuments on the entire island of Corfu and it should not be omitted if you want to visit the “pearls” of the island.
It is an object with fairy-tale views of the bay, full of figures, paintings, sunk in green, but it gives the feeling of overload and reloading with excess decoration. It simply subtracts the lightness of the natural forms here. But it’s still worth visiting this place because of its amazingness.
Entrance to the gardens and inside the palace is payable. Ticket for individual guests ranging from 2-10 € (children up to 14 years 2€, youngsters up to 18, students and large families 5€, and for all adults is about 7 €. Full ticket with audio guide, etc. is 10 €).
Also, The Achillion museum is open daily from 08:00 to 20:00.
The Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank.
Most importantly, as one of the few museums, it has entrance and free guided tours! In its collections you will find banknotes, coin notes and related material, spanning 180 years of Greek State history.
